At the end of the course, the student will learn different health care financing models throughout the world, a short comparative analysis of the Bismarck and Beveridge models; success and failure stories of some countries due to their financing models; how and why private medical insurance evolved, comparison between different plans such as outpatient, inpatient, co-participation etc.; what are the main concerns over corporate or individual insurance schemes; the role of TPA’s, different TPA models; how to keep insurance price affordable; how are hospitals paid, what are the advantages and disadvantages of different payment models such as FFS, Managed Care models; what are PPO’s, HMO’s with their advantage and setbacks; how are physicians paid and comparative analysis.
